Monday’s Bottled Brew: Bitter

Yeah, I know, it’s not quite Monday anymore…

On Monday night I met up with Angelos and we bottled/kegged our latest beers. I’d brewed a very basic Bitter ale, and that is what I got. It’s very clean, with a nice light golden color to it. Nose is faint and malty, and the taste is undeniably characteristic of a bitter ale; smooth, mellow, and mild.

Original gravity was 1.057, final was 1.014, which makes this bitter weigh in right where it should for the style at 5.4% ABV. This will be one fantastic session beer, and will likely be gone before my next batch is ready. Yum!

At the end of the evening we decided that this coming Monday will be our holiday monster brewfest. That is, it’s time to brew up those big beers so they’re ready in time for Christmas. I’m thinking of duplicating my Holiday Beer, though it’s likely going to run me much more to brew it this year due to the rising prices. Ah well, it’s for a good cause.

    Sounds delicious.

On an unrelated note — have you tried the Bavarian RauchBier from Brown’s in Troy? They smoked the malt before brewing — a very unique flavor.
